US Department of Justice confirms Venezuelan diplomat’s extradition to the United States by Cape Verdean authorities Alexa Saaba… Thus, a precedent for the violation of the immunity of diplomats guaranteed by the 1961 Vienna Convention has been created. In the near future, the ambassador to Cape Verde should arrive Natalia Poklonskaya, which Kiev has a grudge against.

Ukraine has already turned to the authorities of Cape Verde and raised the “issue of criminal activity” by the new Russian ambassador, indicating that it is under US and EU sanctions. “You won’t be able to hide even in Africa,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman threatened Oleg Nikolenko… The ex-Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced the preparation of documents for extradition immediately after the appointment of Poklonskaya as ambassador Gunduz Mammadov

The extradition of the Venezuelan diplomat took place “in full compliance with the relevant laws of Cape Verde” and court decisions, the US Department of Justice said and thanked the African country for its help. And this despite the fact that there is not even a bilateral extradition treaty between Cape Verde and the United States. The diplomat was detained when his plane landed on the islands for refueling.

The Russian Foreign Ministry understood what the extradition of the Venezuelan meant on the eve of Poklonskaya’s arrival. “In Washington, apparently, they decided to go to a new level, creating a disastrous precedent for the extradition of an authorized person with diplomatic status. We strongly condemn these actions ”, – the representative of the department was indignant.

The Cape Verdean Foreign Ministry ruled out the possibility of Poklonskaya’s extradition to Ukraine. “No, of course not,” the media quoted a representative of the diplomatic department, who answered the question whether Kiev has a chance of extradition. He called it a joke. One thing is alarming – this is an unofficial position, since the source has not been named.

The voice of the Russian Foreign Ministry does not sound very convincing yet. “Let them first try to apply Ukrainian justice on the territory of Ukraine, and then tackle Africa,” she reacted Maria Zakharova… Alas, we just saw an example of such “application of justice” in the LPR, when an officer of the JCCC was kidnapped by the Ukrainian special forces. Kiev’s insolence worked.

In this regard, the information about the possibility of the capture of Poklonskaya in Cape Verde by the forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, disseminated in the media, does not look so fantastic. Saboteurs may try to capture the Russian ambassador after her arrival on the islands, but before presenting her credentials.

However, Poklonskaya herself is not afraid of such a development of events. With their rhetoric, the Ukrainian authorities show “public disregard” for the norms of international law, she said.

Political scientist Alexander Dudchak I am sure of a serious response from Russia to any provocation.

– Issuance of a foreign diplomat to a third country by Cape Verde, it does not paint it. In the case of Poklonskaya, I don’t think it will come to that. They will definitely not be extradited to Ukraine, but the United States hardly needs it. It can be assumed that Kiev would not mind seeking extradition. I am sure they both want and inject. But for all the madness of the current regime …

“SP”: – Isn’t it tempting to take such a hostage?

– It would deal a very serious blow to the image of Russia. I don’t think Moscow will limit itself to expressing “concern” in this case. These will be serious, adequate symmetric or asymmetric actions, after which it will become clear to everyone that Kiev has received a well-deserved response corresponding to their aggressive act.

“SP”: – And what can Russia? The Ukrainian ambassador cannot be put in prison. The capture of an officer in the LPR also remains without a symmetrical reaction so far …

– Indeed, so far there is no adequate response from the Russian authorities to the capture of an officer in the LPR. The pickets near the OSCE office, which are taking place these days, are not the answer. We need to bring this person home, with an apology, with compensation. By the way, Poklonskaya is a person capable of taking risks and, probably, that is why she did not refuse to go to such a not quite calm place.

Diplomat, former adviser to the UN Secretary General Igor Nikulin points out that threats to Russians arise as a result of an imbalance of power in the world.

– I, of course, do not believe that the Russian ambassador will be extradited to Ukraine, but there is a certain risk.

“SP”: – Will diplomatic immunity extend to Poklonskaya only after the presentation of his credentials?

– Yes, this is the “narrowest” place. Until the ambassador presented his credentials, some provocations are possible.

“SP”: – The Vienna Convention has ceased to be an “iron” guarantee of the immunity of diplomats?

– The case with the Venezuelan diplomat turned out to be very loud. This is a violation of all diplomatic norms. Venezuela can apply to the International Court of Justice, but when a person has already been extradited to another country, it is very difficult to resolve such an issue within the framework of legal procedures. In the West, double standards have recently flourished. International laws do not actually work.

It began not today, but 20 years ago, when someone was shaking a test tube (US Secretary of State Colin Powell demonstrated it at the UN as a supposed chemical weapon Saddam Hussein – Auth.) And instead of conducting a normal investigation, they removed from their post the CEO of the OPCW Jose Bustani, who did not believe in this test tube at all.

As a result, the unipolar world has led to the absence of any legal methods of work, the resolution of certain conflict situations. In essence, arbitrariness occurs. Countries live “according to concepts.” Some laws apply to allies, partners, and others to enemies. Venezuela has been designated a rogue state and its diplomats are already being effectively taken over.

“SP”: – And this is not an isolated case …

– Remember how the plane of the President of Bolivia was landed in Vienna Evo Morales – wanted Edward Snowden… He was not there … Our citizens were captured on the territory of third countries: Victor Bout, Konstantin Yaroshenko… In recent years, Russians have been captured, accusing them of cybercrime. And while we still cannot stop this chaos.

“SP”: – How can this be done? While Russia most often refers to international law, expresses concern …

– It can only be stopped by symmetrical actions. For example, the Soviet Union has always responded similarly to such provocations. Hostage-taking – hostage-taking. Unfortunately, there is no other way to treat international terrorism.

When in the 1980s Hezbollah captured our diplomats (one of them was killed), the nephew of the group leader was captured, castrated and sent to his relatives along with their addresses. A few hours later, all our diplomats were released.
