President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has set the task of creating a vaccine production center in the country, RIA Novosti reports.
This was announced on Tuesday, September 15, by the deputy head of the office of the Ukrainian leader, Yulia Sokolovskaya.
According to her, Zelensky instructed to create a center that will coordinate cooperation between research institutions and production facilities of the country in order to create conditions for the provision of domestic vaccines.
During a meeting on the development of the country's biological security system, Sokolovskaya noted that in the future, this project will help overcome the country's dependence on the import of vaccines and immunobiological preparations. At the same time, the center will be able to counteract the negative impact of biological factors and bio-threats for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Health of the country also presented a vision of the directions for the localization of vaccine production, the implementation of scientific research and scientific and technological developments using genetic engineering technologies.
Scientists also stated the need to give priority to genetically engineered vaccine production technologies.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmitry Kuleba, said that the country would abandon the coronavirus vaccine developed in Russia in favor of manufacturers from the European Union and the United States.
