President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the decision of the Servant of the People party to nominate the former KVN player Oleg Filimonov as a candidate for the post of the head of Odessa, UNIAN reports.
As the Ukrainian leader noted, Odessa has always been represented by great writers, artists, athletes and scientists, and Filimonov, according to the head of state, is a legendary person.
According to Zelensky, Odessa needs a mayor who will become a symbol of honesty, cultural leadership and decency, while he should be known not only in the city, but also abroad.
In addition, the president recalled that Oleg Filimonov had already represented the city at the level of all CIS countries, and his local team became the champion. Now the candidate's team includes businessmen, cultural figures and athletes, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed a "strong protest" against the backdrop of Sunday's elections in Crimea.
