Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against the head of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk and a number of other persons in the terrorism financing case. The corresponding decree has been posted on the website of the office of the head of Ukraine.
On Friday, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine made a decision to impose economic and other restrictive measures against 19 companies and eight individuals, including Medvedchuk and his wife.
Medvedchuk himself, commenting on this decision, declared that he would stay in Ukraine and continue the political struggle. His wife Oksana Marchenko, in her turn, announced that she had joined the Opposition Platform party. She noted that she had never aspired to politics, but she was “left with no choice.”
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kiev expressed support for the Ukrainian authorities. The diplomatic mission noted that Medvedchuk has been under US sanctions since 2014.
