Presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan Vladimir Zelensky and Ilham Aliyev at a meeting in Kiev discussed a number of bilateral issues, as well as the prospects for creating a transport corridor uniting the GUAM countries, TASS reports.
“We will continue to work together on a number of perspectives. Among other things, this is the creation of a transport corridor, possibly within the framework of GUAM, uniting Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova,” the head of Ukraine told reporters after the meeting.
According to Zelensky, it is necessary to intensify international road, rail and air transportation, and create a modern infrastructure.
The parties also discussed the participation of Azerbaijani businesses in privatization in Ukraine and agreed to hold a meeting of a joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in the first half of the year.
Recall that in the spring of 2020, Zelensky proposed to resume the work of the GUAM organization during a telephone conversation with Aliyev.
The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM – is a regional organization in the post-Soviet space, established in 1997. It includes Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova. Uzbekistan was part of it for several years.
