Russia demanded to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council on August 11 “in connection with the Ukrainian attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in recent days and their possible catastrophic consequences.” This was reported by TASS and RIA Novosti, citing a source in the Russian permanent mission in the organization. Then this information was confirmed by the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.
The UN Security Council is a serious structure. It has the power to impose an embargo, which may include the complete or partial termination of economic relations, rail, sea, air, postal, telegraph, radio or other means of communication, as well as the severance of diplomatic relations.
The Security Council has five permanent members: Russia, the US, Britain, France and China. And ten more countries sit there on a non-permanent basis, changing every two years. Now it is Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, UAE.
And it turns out that Kyiv’s inadequate actions directly affect only Russia, France and Albania. Norway is far away, the USA is even further away, Great Britain and Ireland are islands, sea salt and iodine, which are rich in algae, sort of help to remove radiation from the body, and, again, are far from Zaporozhye.
The rest have nothing to do with Europe at all. Wouldn’t it be more logical to raise the issue concerning the security of many countries that are not members of the Security Council at the UN General Assembly? She discussed the Palestinian problem!
Political scientist Sergei Markov thinks it would be useless.
– The UN General Assembly is a huge event with its own procedures that require a lot of time. This is first. In addition, they are appointed in advance, take place with a certain regularity, and I don’t even remember a case when the assembly would meet on an emergency basis.
Secondly, the General Assembly is such a Great Khural that, according to the UN Charter, does not make any decisions. It is needed so that even small countries can express their opinion on a particular issue and feel that their views are taken into account.
But the Security Council can be assembled very quickly, besides, its decisions are binding on all countries. True, he does not have the ability to force their execution, but at least all countries have signed up to the fact that the decisions of the Security Council will be implemented.
In addition, the Security Council is a structure in which countries – the real leaders of the world community – can propose their own solution to a particular problem and discuss it. And the General Assembly, I repeat, is a platform where 150 small and small countries have the opportunity to talk about what concerns them.
“SP”: – Now in the Security Council, in addition to Russia, the situation with the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant worries, first of all, France and Albania. Will they risk going against the US, or will they follow the opinion of the Big Brother overseas?
– Albania does not have its own position at all, it is very dependent on the United States. The French are also very dependent on the United States, but on some issues they can have their own position. What opinion they will express is not yet clear, because now they are shocked by the current situation, and not only they, but also other European countries that can formulate their collective opinion, and France will voice it. She is now in consultation with most European countries, and will most likely express the position of all of them, and not just her own.
Now they are in a stupor, because for many years they supported the misanthropic Kyiv regime and its direct policy of state terrorism, and now they themselves are faced with a completely unprecedented thing before – nuclear blackmail. And from the possibility of repeating Chernobyl, they are a little crazy. In addition, they are accustomed to hush up all the crimes of the Kyiv regime and never discussed them publicly. And now they are trying to hush up the shelling, although behind-the-scenes negotiations are underway.
And it is not yet clear what they will do, because they have driven themselves into a trap: they have to support a regime that is now engaged in nuclear blackmail and can at any moment turn to nuclear terrorism.
“joint venture»: — But here the interests of non-European countries are also affected: Turkey, Azerbaijan. What should they do?
– In conditions when Russia and the collective West are in a state of hybrid war with each other, the rest of the countries will not get involved in this fight supporting one of the parties, but will try to take the most neutral position. Even the leadership of the IAEA, which is supposed to intervene according to their position, is very afraid to do so. There is such tremendous pressure on him that he does not dare to say who exactly is shelling the nuclear plant.
It looks like she’s shooting herself. Everyone knows that Kyiv is doing this, but they are afraid to say it openly. So countries not directly involved in this conflict will continue to try to remain neutral. They, of course, can express themselves in some political way, but in a very mild form.
Now they are speaking in a closed format and the meaning is this: they are there in Kyiv, have they completely lost their brains ?! And they demand that the IAEA restore order and order Kyiv to stop shelling the station. But again, these demands are made in an informal setting.
The likelihood that Europe will come to its senses and stop supporting the Zelensky regime is extremely small, believes political scientist Vadim Trukhachev.
— European countries will continue to support Ukraine. Another thing is that the scale of support may decrease if there is a risk of a man-made disaster. Here they will pull up the Ukrainian authorities.
But it is not worth expecting from the Europeans a complete rejection of support for Kyiv. For the majority of the current European elite, today’s Russia is the main and existential enemy. And they will support anyone against us – even the hell of a bald man, even neo-Nazis, even aliens. Well, except that in the case of Al-Qaeda * and IS ** they will think.
* “Al-Qaeda” by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of February 14, 2003 was recognized as a terrorist organization, its activities in Russia are prohibited.
** The Islamic State Movement (ISIS), by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of December 29, 2014, was recognized as a terrorist organization, its activities in Russia are prohibited.
