To protect the grapes from being eaten by birds at no cost, you can make turntables from plastic bottles. They rotate in the wind and create glare, thereby frightening pests. In addition to their practical benefits, homemade bottle turntables are a decoration that is interesting to watch in windy weather.
- plastic bottles 1.5-2 l;
- food foil;
- double-sided tape or glue;
- thin rods or wire.
The process of making and installing turntables
On the central part of the plastic bottle, markings are made for the blades.
You need to split it into 5 blades. The width of each of them is about 4 cm, the distance between the blades is about 3 cm. Actual dimensions depend on the diameter of a particular bottle. It is important that the blades are the same and placed symmetrically. In this case, they will rotate even with light gusts of wind.
Using a clerical knife, cut each blade from three sides. The cut is made along the cross marks and one longitudinal mark. The blades are then bent outward at right angles. You also need to drill the bottom of the bottle in the center. The diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the thickness of the rods or wire prepared for installing the spinners.
Then foil is glued to the blades. The safest way to do this is with double-sided tape, it will not let it fall off even after months in the rain. You can stick it on superglue. Also, for this purpose, instead of food foil, trims of a heat-reflecting self-adhesive screen for heating radiators are suitable.
To fasten the turntable, a twig or wire is inserted into the hole in the bottom. Its end from the inside of the bottle rests against the cap. In the lid itself, you need to make a small depression with a drill. The axis should rest against it, due to this, it will always be in the center. When the wind blows, the pinwheel rotates and the foil on the blades creates glare. All this together and scares away birds.
You need to make several of these turbines and place them throughout the vineyard. The pins from the spinners are tied to the trellis of grapes from above so that the vine does not cover them as it grows.
The same impellers can be installed on a strawberry plantation, tied above the crown of cherry, sweet cherry, peach. It takes no more than 10 minutes to make one turntable, so after spending 1 hour you can make them enough to place them all over the site. Also, such scarecrows can be fought with sparrows chirping in the morning near open windows.
