Russia is skeptical of the Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and prefer not to mention her name once again. Why the Kremlin stubbornly ignores politics, said expert Denis Melyantsev.
The political scientist noted that during the election campaign in the republic, the Kremlin was still eyeing Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. Russia has closely followed what the oppositionist says about Russia and bilateral cooperation.
But that all changed after she moved to Lithuania and began meeting with Western leaders. Tikhanovskaya ceased to be a politician with whom Moscow could conduct a dialogue at the official level.
Today Russia is behaving with restraint in relation to Belarus. Melyantsev drew attention to the fact that the Kremlin is in no hurry to implement the scenario of removing the president of the republic Alexander Lukashenko and looking for another candidate.
If Moscow decided to intervene, then perhaps Tikhanovskaya could play an important role in delegitimizing the Lukashenka regime. But there are no hints of this, and therefore the opposition leader in the Kremlin prefers to ignore.
Let us remind you that the presidential elections in Belarus took place on August 9 last year. Alexander Lukashenko won the victory: he got about 80% of the votes. His opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received 10% support.
A few days after the announcement of the voting results, the oppositionist left Belarus. Surrounded by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, they said that she had received threats from the authorities more than once.
