The likelihood of a third wave of coronavirus exists, said Melita Vujnovich, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia.
In an interview on the channel “Russia 1” she said that it will depend on the behavior of the people themselves. According to her, although the incidence of coronavirus in the world is decreasing, there is still no herd immunity.
“If we’re not careful, yes, a third wave is possible,” she said.
At the same time, Vujnovich found it difficult to name the end date of the pandemic. This requires that the number of cases simultaneously in all regions of the world does not exceed the level of the epidemiological threshold. In addition, the burden on the healthcare system should not interfere with its normal work.
“It’s hard to say when it will be,” said a WHO spokeswoman.
The day before, the head of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the number of new infections with coronavirus around the world has been declining for the fifth week in a row. It shows that simple health measures are working, he said, even with the different mutations of the virus.
