This week has been very eventful. Presidential elections are coming in Belarus, in the USA "mourn" Tik Tok, and the number of political prisoners is still growing in Russia. What else happened in the world this week and what we would like to dwell on in more detail, we tell in our material on SPLETNIK.RU.
1.Donald Trump and TikTok
73-year-old US President Donald Trump has taken TikTok seriously. The head of state said he intends to block the popular social network in the country.
Trump made the decision to take such measures for reasons of national security. In any case, this is the official version. The fact is that TikTok belongs to the Chinese company ByteDance, and the US President fears that the data of American users of the social network will be transferred to the PRC government.
Another reason, which experts say, may be the trade war with China. It is no secret that in recent years the economy of an Asian country has been on a significant rise, and a power such as the United States, which is striving for world domination, is, of course, not at hand. By banning the social network in the country, Trump will cause significant financial damage to the owners of the company.
Yesterday, the American magazine Forbes published a ranking of the TikTok stars with the highest income. The first place on the list was taken by 19-year-old Addison Ray Easterling, who earned more than five million dollars in a year thanks to the social network. She even dropped out of the University of Louisiana to work at TikTok, and thanks to her popularity, she entered into several advertising contracts with famous brands. The second and third places were taken by sisters - 16-year-old Charlie and 18-year-old Dixie D'Amelio, who earned $ 4 and 2.9 million, respectively. Needless to say, Trump's decision will put an end to their careers on the popular social network (unless they decide to move to another country)?

The third reason is political. In June, a rally in support of Donald Trump was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. You could book tickets for it online. This is exactly what the users of the Tik Tok application did, but they did not appear at the rally. The turnout turned out to be extremely low, Trump's supporters could not purchase tickets due to the coordinated actions of users of the social network, and the president lost the support of his potential voters. For Trump, who will run again in the presidential elections in the fall, this is a really serious problem, as he will have to fight for victory. Outright censorship (if, after all, this is the reason) can severely hit the reputation of Trump, who had previously threatened to close Twitter in the United States.
Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un
The American company Microsoft announced its desire to acquire part of the TikTok business. Today, Donald Trump signed a decree banning all transactions with the owners of TikTok and WeChat, which will take effect 45 days later. So the companies will need to negotiate a deal in the near future. At the same time, Trump said that part of the money from the deal would have to go to the US Treasury. His statement will only complicate negotiations between the two companies, as, according to lawyers, the government has no authority to participate in a private transaction.
The American users of the popular social network with more than a billion users worldwide are, of course, shocked. However, some are humorous about what is happening. Tik Tok already has the hashtag #SaveTikTok (save TikTok), under which people post funny videos making fun of Trump.

2.A business "New greatness"
Yesterday Moscow's Lublin Court announced the verdict to the defendants in the case "New greatness"... Three of them, Vyacheslav Kryukov, Pyotr Karamzin and Ruslan Kostylenkov, were given real terms (they were sentenced to six, six and a half and seven years in prison, respectively), others, Dmitry Poletaev, Maxim Roshchin, Maria Dubovik and Anna Pavlikova, were given suspended sentences from four to six and a half years.
As a reminder, on March 15, 2018, ten members of the opposition organization "New greatness" were detained by representatives of law enforcement agencies. They were accused of creating an extremist community. The investigation stated that they planned "constitutional coup followed by seizure of power",
The case received a great public response. Among the detainees was a minor Anna Pavlikova, who was sent to a pre-trial detention center. During her detention, the girl developed several serious illnesses. Another detainee, Maria Dubovik, also had health problems in the remand prison. On August 15, in support of girls in Moscow, "March of mothers"... The next day they were both placed under house arrest.
Dmitry Bykov on "March of mothers"
Other detainees talked about the torture they were subjected to in the pre-trial detention center.
A business "New greatness" even Russian President Vladimir Putin commented. He stated that the purpose of the organization was "unconstitutional overthrow of the current government with the use of violence",
To do this, they held training camps, held various events, prepared for hostilities, as they themselves wrote there in their documents, preparing, among other things, to carry out terrorist attacks against the authorities ... In addition, they have cold and rifled weapons, grenades or a couple of grenades are serious things,
- Putin said.
The defendants in the case did not admit their guilt. Their lawyers say that there was a provocation by the leader of the group Ruslan Danilov (real name Alexander Konstantinov). In their opinion, he was an embedded agent of the special services, who created the organization's charter (later extremist calls were found in it) and was looking for premises for its meetings (initially, the members of the group met in Moscow "McDonald's").
Before their arrest, the defendants "New greatness" managed to take part in several protest rallies and a march in memory of Boris Nemtsov. However, the investigation referred to the fact that they also arranged trips to the Moscow region, where they trained to shoot at targets and made Molotov cocktails.
Even before their arrest, several participants "New greatness" they said they wanted to leave the organization, but Danilov dissuaded them from doing so. It was his testimony that formed the basis of the case.
Of course, I want to believe that the provocateur Radu Zelinsky (aka Ruslan Danilov, aka Alexander Konstantinov, aka ...) is a geek who fabricated the whole scam with "New greatness", will get a personal place in hell, and the fire will never go out under his frying pan. But it's not just the bastard with multiple names. The fact is that cronyism has become the professional signature of the secret police.
What was the case for "New greatness" authorities, there is no exact answer. Perhaps it was born in the stoned brain of a major who dreamed of becoming a lieutenant colonel, but did not know how to do it honestly.
What has the state shown by this case and this verdict? Verdict in the case "New greatness" reflects the level of barbarism in modern Russia. No right. There is no protection. There is no court. Primitive police society. Denunciation and torture hook are the main "tools"... A business "New greatness" showed that the state passed from perverted laws to outright lawlessness. That lawlessness has become a state policy. That the spirit of the Cheka materializes before our eyes, recognition again became "queen of evidence", and the staff of the secret police is overflowing with sadists, embodying their dark fantasies under the guise of shoulder straps (the author's spelling and punctuation are preserved. - Ed.),
- said human rights activist Lev Schlosberg.
3."Russian trace" in Beirut
On Tuesday, August 4, an explosion occurred in the Lebanese capital Beirut. As it became known later, a warehouse with pyrotechnics caught fire in the city port. The tragedy claimed the lives of more than 100 people, and more than five thousand were injured. The country's authorities estimate the damage from the consequences of the explosion at $ 15 billion.
Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab called the tragedy in the port of Beirut a national catastrophe and said that those responsible will be punished for what happened. The names of those involved in the incident have not yet been named, but almost immediately they started talking about "Russian trail",
Ammonium nitrate, which exploded at a warehouse in the port of Beirut, got there on the Rhosus ship, owned by a Russian-born Cypriot businessman Igor Grechushkin. In 2014, his ship was arrested at the port for non-payment of parking fees, and the chemical was left in storage in a warehouse.
Grechushkin is from Khabarovsk, but has long lived in Cyprus. Former Rhosus captain Boris Prokoshev says that his boss had big financial problems: only he owed him 60 thousand dollars. It was Prokoshev who transported the ill-fated cargo to Lebanon from Batumi. According to him, Grechushkin was given a million dollars for the transportation of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate. The customers were people from Mozambique, but they did not show up, and the cargo remained in storage in the Lebanese port.
However, the Lebanese authorities are interested in this story. Firstly, Grechushkin became the owner of the ship shortly before the very voyage on which the dangerous cargo was transported (previously the ship belonged to the Cypriots), secondly, he did not pay his crew, and thirdly, he simply abandoned his ship, although, in the opinion Prokoshev, you could get 350 thousand dollars for him, simply by renting it for scrap. Why the cargo owners did not show up is also an open question.
Nevertheless, most likely, the port authorities of Beirut are found guilty, which left the dangerous cargo in storage without taking precautions.
They knew that this was a dangerous cargo - there was a terrorist threat in Lebanon, and one should not enter ports with such a cargo. How Grechushkin agreed to let us go there, I don't know. When Grechushkin wanted us to go to Cyprus, the Lebanese, knowing that we had dangerous cargo, on the contrary, had to pay him extra money so that only he would remove the headache from the port. And they arrested the ship - you see, they wanted to rip it off. Well, of course, they wanted to rip it off, but it turned out that he neither paid us nor them,
- says Prokoshev.
