The ball was also attended by the Minister of Culture of Belarus Anatoly Markevich, Minister of education Igor Karpenko and Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko…
The first presidential New Year’s ball at the Palace of Independence was held in 2018. It was attended by 300 students and senior pupils who have achieved particular success in their studies, creativity and sports, scientific and social activities, as well as Belarusian officials.
How was the presidential ball in 2020?
The ball began with the performance of a solemn dance-procession. 72 couples who passed the casting for dancing ability, and then studied ballroom etiquette for two months, danced a polonaise. Welcoming the participants of the ball, the head of state stressed that this evening in the Palace of Independence, always restrained and official, the history of the country “which is rich in unique and beautiful traditions” comes to life. According to Lukashenko, the culture of ballroom dancing also applies to them.
“This evening is not just a holiday, but a journey to the origins of traditions. By the way, this is one of the traditions that we are recreating. There can be no state without traditions. Around these traditions, over the centuries, the aspiration of our people to their statehood and independence was born and strengthened. After all, what is statehood? First of all, this is the people’s awareness of the historical right to be the owner of their land, the feeling of tribal connection with generations of different eras, the understanding of how the national character and mentality of a modern person was formed, ”Lukashenko said.
The head of state also noted that just over a century ago, only representatives of the rich and titled estates could attend such a holiday, and today every talented and hardworking citizen loyal to the Fatherland has a chance to dance at the ball. The President wished that the New Year’s ball would give its participants not only unforgettable emotions, but also awaken a sense of belonging to the heritage of Belarusian history and responsibility for the country’s future.
“Yes, we are going through difficult times. Yes, sometimes young and hot heads, your heads, are at the forefront of events. It has always been that way. And in my time, and later. But I am convinced that sooner or later all our children will hear not the calls of foreign Telegram channels, but the voice of reason. And they will say thank you to those people who are fighting on the front lines for the future today, ”Lukashenka said.
During the ball, the leader of Belarus called on the youth not to allow the country “to be under the boot of foreigners”, but to remain independent. The President assured that the leadership will continue to fulfill the historical mission that “fell to the lot of the generation of the creators of independent Belarus”.
Who did Alexander Lukashenko dance with at the ball?
According to the Belarusian newspaper “Nasha Niva”, at the youth ball in the Palace of Independence, the president danced with a student Olga Petrovich… She is from Borisov, a third-year student of the forestry department of the Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU). According to the girl, her family is the most ordinary.
“My father had a medical degree, but unfortunately he passed away several years ago. And my mother is also a medic. I already told her about the ball I danced with Lukashenka – she is very happy for me, ”Olga said.
This year, Petrovich took part in the Miss Belarus contest, but the contest never ended. Due to the epidemiological situation, the semi-finals were postponed indefinitely.
According to the girl, she herself invited the head of state to dance. “I myself invited Lukashenka to dance. He did not refuse – he dances well. They danced a waltz, talked about the ball, what a solemn atmosphere, what dancers and how great they look and try, ”she told the publication.
