The Russian Union of Latvia will celebrate Victory Day, despite the ban. “The pandemic is not a reason for political games and unreasonable bans! We will not abandon Victory Day,” the party stressed.
In Latvia, it was forbidden to celebrate Victory Day at the monument to the liberators from Nazism in Riga. However, the party “Russian Union of Latvia” is not going to refuse to hold the festive events scheduled for May 9th.
As a formal reason for the ban on celebrating Victory Day, quarantine and restrictions in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic were used. At the same time, the Latvian authorities intend to block all passages to the monument to the liberators from Nazism in order to ensure that no one will celebrate Victory Day.
The Russian Union of Latvia immediately reacted to this provocation. The party reports that its deputies will seek to open the passage to the monument on the holiday.
The pandemic is not a reason for political games and unreasonable bans! We will not give up Victory Day,
– reads the message of the Russian Union of Latvia on Facebook.
Recall that in 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Riga authorities did not interfere with those wishing to lay flowers at the monument to the liberators of Riga from the Nazi invaders. Then the police were on duty at the monument, but did not take action against those who came to honor the memory of the fighters against Nazism. This suggests that another provocation is taking place.
