The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that from January 20 in Russia, labeling of dairy products will be carried out on a voluntary basis.
Currently, an experiment on labeling “milk” is underway in the Russian Federation, it began on July 15, 2019 and will last until December 31 of this year. During the meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture Denis Manturov and Dmitry Patrushev with representatives of the industry, issues of introducing mandatory labeling were discussed. Manturov stressed that “the stages of the entry into force of the requirements for labeling are more than mild.” The final stage will come only at the end of 2023, when the mandatory piece labeling of each product unit begins.
Patrushev noted that in order to minimize costs, his ministry has developed measures such as the provision of concessional short-term loans for the purchase of codes and the necessary equipment, as well as provision of printing and preferential maintenance.
From January 20, 2021, labeling of dairy products will be carried out on a voluntary basis. From June 1, 2021, mandatory labeling requirements for cheeses and ice cream will come into force, from September 1 – dairy products with a shelf life of more than 40 days and from December 1 – products with a shelf life of 40 days or less., – reads message from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
As chernayakobra.ru reported, Russia has planned to tighten the requirements for “green products”, the production of which prohibits the use of genetic engineering methods and genetically modified organisms. Agricultural brands and enhanced products will be promoted. And the requirements for compliance with production standards will be stricter. The document with the relevant initiatives has already been submitted for consideration to the Russian government.
