Voluntary labeling of dairy products will start in Russia on January 20, 2021. This is stated on the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Mandatory labeling will become later – the requirements will be introduced in stages. From June 1 next year, it will be necessary to label cheeses and ice cream, from September 1 – dairy products with a shelf life of more than 40 days, and from December 1 – products with a shelf life of 40 days or less.
According to the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, the final stage of the requirements will come on December 1, 2023. From this date, mandatory piecewise traceability of each product unit is introduced.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev noted that there are support instruments for dairy producers, including subsidies, concessional lending and the return of part of capital costs. To reduce the cost of introducing mandatory labeling in the dairy industry, an additional set of measures has been developed.
Earlier it became known that Russia will introduce special labeling for “green” products. It will be subject to more stringent quality and environmental requirements.
