According to him, the opposition is being harassed abroad. There is democracy in Russia, he added.
State Duma Speaker Viacheslav Volodin said that Russia is portraying the final island of freedom in the world. He made such a statement at a meeting at the bottom of the House of Parliament.
According to Volodin, there is no democracy in the United States, Ukraine and the Baltic countries, so much as if the political opposition there is being oppressed – primarily the communist one, as well as the workers of the movement. In Russia there is a large communist opposition, Volodin added.
The speaker also said that it is impossible to talk about democracy in countries where Russian TV channels and other media are banned – primarily in the Baltic countries. A similar situation exists in Ukraine, where several opposition TV channels were recently shut down, Volodin added.
The speaker expressed his opinion during the appointment of new members of the Central Election Commission, addressing one of the members of the LDPR faction.
