Viscose: how to wash so that the thing does not shrink and stretch

Viscose clothing needs special care. In order not to spoil a completely new thing, it is important to know in advance how to wash viscose correctly.

Viscose is a godsend for the consumer. Artificial fiber not only repeats the appearance of natural materials, but sometimes surpasses them in strength and comfort when worn.

How to wash viscose in order to preserve its appearance and properties unchanged?

Preparing for washing

Both 100% viscose and mixed fabrics made on its basis, with external differences, belong to the same group – delicate fabrics.

Products from any of them can be washed, but before that, the following preparation is required:

  • Select the type of wash. High-quality dense products can be entrusted to the washing machine, it is better to put more delicate wardrobe items in order with your hands. The type of treatment permitted, as well as other useful information, is indicated on the label.
  • Sort clothes by color. Although shedding is unusual for viscose things, nevertheless, it is better to adhere to the general rule: do not mix white, color and black.
  • If you plan to wash products from different fabrics, viscose should be put on clothes that are similar in texture to it. Bulky items, for example: blankets or jackets, are washed one by one.
  • Inspect pockets and remove debris. Fasten buttons, buttons and zippers. Turn clothes inside out.
  • Choose a detergent.

Suitable for artificial matter:

  1. Any product intended for the care of silk, wool and delicate fabrics (from another, pellets form on the surface). It is great if it is a gel or liquid. The powder is not easily rinsed out, especially from jackets and blankets with filler.
  2. If there are stains on things, bleach or a stain remover, but only oxygen, is added to the main cleaning agent. Substances that contain chlorine have a destructive effect on viscose fiber.

Pure viscose does not accumulate static electricity, so it does not need an antistatic air conditioner. If the product contains polyester, then you cannot do without it.

Viscose fiber requires careful handling, so any products made from it are best washed by hand. But, even this gentle way of processing will lead to deformation of things if you ignore the rules.

The artificial canvas is washed like this:

  • Pour water into a basin. If pure viscose was used for sewing the product, or its mixture with cotton, lyocell, modal, then a temperature of 40 ° is acceptable. Viscose silk and blends with wool, polyester or spandex to avoid shrinkage are washed at 30 °.
  • Add the selected detergent to the basin and beat the foam. If necessary, it is supplemented with oxygen bleach. Wardrobe items or bedding are immersed in the solution. The soaking time is 20-30 minutes. If you need to refresh the color of a white viscose garment, it is immersed in an aqueous solution of peroxide with table salt for half an hour (30 ml and 60 g, respectively, for 5 liters).
  • When wet, the viscose fabric significantly loses its strength. For this reason, it should not be rubbed vigorously with your hands during the wash process. Sections of the product are squeezed with palms, moving from one end to the other.
  • Viscose does not tolerate temperature shock, so the rinse water should not differ much from the one used for the main wash.

To restore the color of colored clothes, salt (5 g per 1 liter) is added to the last rinse water. Viscose vinegar does not tolerate well.

Machine wash

The vending machine can only be loaded into the drum of the machine from dense materials, for example: quilted viscose blankets and jackets, T-shirts and tracksuits.
Machine wash is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Prepared things are put into the device in the usual way or in a special mesh bag.
  • A specialized product and conditioner are poured into the cuvette. If you need to remove stains, add oxygen bleach according to the instructions.
  • On the panel, select the mode “delicate wash” or “hand”, “wool” or “synthetics”.
  • For especially delicate products, set the temperature to 30 °. Thicker items are washed at the standard 40 °.
  • To reduce the mechanical effect on the matter, it is advisable to disable the “spin” option. “Drying” is excluded unconditionally.

In no case should ribbed balls for washing be put together with viscose products. Puffs will appear on the fabric, and possibly tears.

How to dry and iron viscose products

“Wood silk” (as sometimes called viscose) can lose its appearance not only with improper washing, but also during the subsequent stages of care – drying and ironing. To avoid deformation of products, when drying, they are guided by the following rules:

  • Water is slightly driven off clean wardrobe items and bedding without twisting. Bulky things are allowed to swell in the bathroom.
  • Clothes are wrapped in a towel, and bed linen and blankets are wrapped in a sheet to absorb excess liquid.
  • Things are unrolled and, straightened, laid horizontally on a dry mat. This is done to prevent the fabric from stretching.
  • Products are hung on a rope or hanger when water stops flowing from them. Viscose practically does not fade, so you can finish drying it in the sun.

Under no circumstances should artificial material be hung on heating devices or in the immediate vicinity of them. This will lead to inevitable deformation.

Many mixed fabrics usually do not need to be ironed. But viscose in its pure form after drying needs an iron. What should be remembered when starting ironing?

The items are placed on the ironing board in a slightly damp state. The iron regulator is set to 1-2 divisions (depending on the model of the device and the type of material):

  • pure viscose and with the addition of cotton or flax, it is permissible to iron at 120 ° with a small amount of wet steam, and preferably through wet gauze;
  • blended fabric with polyester and spandex, as well as rayon silk – at 60-90 ° dry.

Ironing is carried out from the inside out. If it is impossible to turn the thing out, cover the surface with a thin damp white cloth.

Does the material shrink after washing

Viscose and most of its modifications are subject to deformation. With improper care, things can twist, sit down or, conversely, stretch out. To avoid such surprises, before starting any manipulations, you should study the composition of matter.

If in hands is:

  • 100% viscose fabric, then, perhaps, the thing will shrink after washing by a maximum of 4%;
  • wood fiber with wool, cotton and linen can significantly decrease in size, especially when in contact with hot water and heating appliances;
  • elastane and knitted fabric are stretched by intensive wringing and hanging wet on a rope or hanger.

If the viscose has sat down, then the damp thing can be stretched with an iron and at the same time stretching the product. If it is stretched, then there is a small chance of returning it to its normal state by soaking in very cold water.

Thus, it is possible to preserve the original appearance of the product only if all the rules of care are observed.
