For assembling furniture, gluing panels and other joinery, wooden dowels are used. On sale, they are usually found in the size of 8×30 mm and 8×35 mm. Sometimes dowels of a different diameter or length are needed. Make yourself such a device, and you can cut them into any configuration from scraps of boards and slats.
- planed board or piece of furniture board;
- old ones are tight from a jigsaw – 2 pcs.
Conductor manufacturing process
From a planed board or trimming a furniture board, it is necessary to cut the base of the conductor in the form of a rectangle. Its length should correspond to the duration of the working part of the blade from a jigsaw with teeth, the width is 60-70 mm.
Along the center of the workpiece with an offset of 20 mm from the edge and the same step, holes are drilled in one line for cutting dowels.
They are made in ascending order of diameter. What holes will be made, such dowels are obtained. The diameters are optimal: 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm.
On the plank, you need to make 2 longitudinal cuts passing along the edges of the holes. Their depth should match the width of the jigsaw blade without teeth.
The cut must be made with a narrower circular disc than the thickness of the jigsaw blades. To prevent the workpiece from moving during sawing, it can be temporarily glued to the workbench with double-sided tape.
Jigsaw blades are inserted into the cuts obtained, and the jig is clamped on the edge of the workbench with a clamp.
Next, you need to cut out a square rail of a slightly larger diameter than the required dowel.
Its edge is rounded off with a knife to clamp it into the drill chuck. Then, starting the rotation, you need to drive the workpiece through the hole. It is important here that the direction of its rotation goes to the edges of the teeth of the blades, so if the cut does not occur, then they need to be turned.
The resulting round profile can be sanded with sandpaper. Then it is cut into dowels of the desired length. After that, they can be used for their intended purpose.
