The US State Department reported that Washington expects to work jointly with Russia and China on the Iranian nuclear program, despite disagreements with Moscow and Beijing on other issues, TASS reports.
The American side noted that in the past, Russia and China in the negotiations within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program played a “productive, constructive role, since they had no interest in Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, and they had no interest to have a conflict in the region ”.
In 2018, former American leader Donald Trump unilaterally decided to withdraw from the treaty and renew economic restrictions on Iran. In December 2020, President-elect Joseph Biden vowed to return the United States to the JCPOA.
On February 2, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said that the United States has a limited number of opportunities to return to the JCPOA. The Biden administration must adhere to the original terms of the nuclear deal, he said.
On the eve of the US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the United States is ready for a meeting organized by the European Union with the participation of the “six” international mediators and Iran. Russia, Great Britain, Germany, France, the United States and China will take part in the negotiations with Tehran.
