USA and UAE sign agreement to expand consular powers

The United States and the United Arab Emirates have signed an agreement to expand consular privileges and immunity, writes TASS, citing a statement from the press service of the State Department.

The agreement "will provide consular officers with enhanced protection while working with citizens of their countries", as well as "strengthen the capabilities of consular personnel to ensure the interests of citizens, national interests."

The US State Department named the UAE a strategically important partner in maintaining stability in the Persian Gulf and ensuring American interests and freedom of trade in the region.

The details of the agreement were not disclosed at the State Department.
