The head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price, said that the US administration is ready to lift some of the unilateral sanctions against Iran that run counter to the nuclear deal, TASS reports.
“We understand that we will need to ensure that sanctions are mitigated. With regard to those sanctions that run counter to the JCPOA, ”he said.
At the same time, the State Department calls on Tehran to abandon such maximalist claims to Washington.
“Maximalist demands will get us nowhere. The reason we are in Vienna is to discuss what steps might look like to implement the provisions of the JCPOA by both sides, ”he said.
Recall that Iran insists on the complete lifting of US sanctions.
In 2018, former American leader Donald Trump unilaterally decided to withdraw from the JCPOA and renew economic restrictions on Iran. In December 2020, President-elect Joseph Biden vowed to bring the United States back to the agreement.
