In the United States, the FBI and prosecutors have launched an investigation into the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is suspected of concealing the true number of COVID-19 victims in state nursing homes in the spring and summer of 2020, writes TASS.
It is noted that the subpoenas for testimony have already been sent to employees of the governor’s administration, involved in providing information on the number of deaths in the state from the consequences of COVID-19 infection. There is a great deal of emphasis on reporting deaths in New York City nursing homes.
The investigation began following the confession of Cuomo’s closest aide Melissa Deroza, who shared in a private meeting with local Democratic lawmakers on February 10 that the state had obstructed the release of such data when it was officially requested in August by the relevant services. According to her, the circle of the governor decided that the true and very high mortality rates from coronavirus could increase the chances of winning the election for the then US President Donald Trump.
The governor’s assistant clarified that the administration chose to postpone until the end of the elections with the release of information about more than 13 thousand state residents who died at that time in nursing homes from the effects of coronavirus infection. It was decided to report only 8 671 deceased.
We will remind, earlier, Andrew Cuomo said that the state authorities did not try to hide the true number of deaths after infection with COVID-19 in nursing homes. However, he admitted that they did not disclose the relevant data as quickly as they should.
