US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith said that it is impossible for the North Atlantic Alliance to return to the 1997 borders.
“The Alliance will not go back in time to a completely different era,” RIA Novosti quotes her words.
Smith noted that NATO had a “more modest scope” then. Also, the alliance is not ready to abandon the policy of “open doors”.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed regret over the fact that the United States insists on unilateral concessions from Russia and prefers speculation instead of constructive.
Recall that consultations were held in Geneva on the eve of Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees. Ryabkov later assessed the negotiations, calling them specific and very professional.
