More than 20 US diplomats and national security officials have appealed to US President Joe Biden to publish a list of sanctions that Washington is ready to impose against Russia if the situation in Ukraine escalates, the Associated Press reports.
According to the newspaper, the corresponding statement was signed by former United States ambassadors in Moscow Michael McFaul and Alexander Vershbow, as well as several former American diplomats in Ukraine.
According to the authors of the initiative, this must be done “so that the Kremlin has a clear idea of the scale of the economic blow that it will face.”
Diplomats believe that after this step, the American authorities, in coordination with NATO allies and with Ukraine, will be able to take measures that will affect the further actions of the Russian side.
Earlier, Biden promised to impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation on the border with Ukraine.
