The head of the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases of the United States, Anthony Fauci, said that the suspension of trials of a vaccine against coronavirus infection by a number of American companies is a standard procedure, TASS reports.
The infectious disease specialist explained that there is nothing unusual in the appearance of a side effect during clinical trials involving tens of thousands of people. He also noted that the suspension of tests is due to precautions.
Fauci stressed that in general, the development of drugs for COVID-19 is progressing "really well" in the country. Whether the United States has a safe and effective vaccine at its disposal will be known by November or December, he said.
Johnson & Johnson previously announced that it had stopped providing doses of its vaccine to trial participants due to the detection of an unknown disease in a volunteer. The WHO said that safety is critical in the research process.
