UN Secretary General says worst economic crisis in a century

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the current economic crisis was the worst in the last century, reports TASS.

“More than 2 million people have died and we are in the worst economic crisis in about 100 years,” he said.

According to him, in 2021 the world “has a unique opportunity to move from fragility to resilience as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.” This requires that “governments, international organizations, the private sector and civil society work together.”

According to the UN report “World Economic Situation and Prospects”, in 2020 the world economy contracted by 4.3%.

Earlier, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the crisis in the economy and social sphere caused by the coronavirus pandemic would begin to recede.

According to the prime minister, thanks to large-scale vaccinations and as the formation of general immunity, fears that have held back economic development and trade will begin to disappear into the past.
