The UN General Assembly in a comprehensive resolution on the comprehensive fight against the coronavirus pandemic recognized COVID-19 as one of the greatest challenges in the history of the organization
169 countries voted for the resolution. The USA and Israel opposed, Ukraine and Hungary abstained.
The document states that the organization is deeply concerned that the pandemic is having a devastating effect on the economy, employment system, world trade, industry and commerce.
In addition, the UN General Assembly resolution expresses concern about the growth of discrimination, incitement to hatred, racism and xenophobia associated with the pandemic.
"The General Assembly supports the call of the UN Secretary General for an immediate ceasefire throughout the world, including for the creation of corridors for the delivery of aid," the authors of the resolution urge.
