UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged countries to urgently create a global vaccination plan against COVID-19 for a more equitable distribution of vaccines between states, RIA Novosti reported.
According to him, today only ten countries have used 75% of all coronavirus vaccines. More than 130 countries have not received a single dose. Guterres called the progress in vaccination “unfair”, pointing out that
people affected by armed conflict risk being left behind in the vaccination process.
The UN Secretary General said that the G20 is well placed to create an emergency working group to prepare a global vaccination plan and coordinate its funding.
Earlier it was reported that every fiftieth person in the world was vaccinated against coronavirus. More than 2% of the world’s population is vaccinated against COVID-19, which the UN estimates at 7.8 billion.
