About a thousand protesters in Almaty were injured and dozens were killed. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.
“A police spokesman in the main city in Almaty said security forces had killed dozens of protesters. In addition, almost 1,000 people were reportedly injured during the protests that began on January 2, ”she said.
The official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarrick said that the World Organization continues to follow the development of events in Kazakhstan, and also maintains contact with the authorities of the republic.
Earlier, the UN called on the security forces and protesters in Kazakhstan to refrain from violence.
It should be reminded that almost 2.3 thousand people were detained as a result of the riots in the country. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic said that 18 security officials were killed, another 748 were injured.
