Europe and Germany have forgotten about the desire of the Ukrainian side to join the European Union, said Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andriy Melnyk.
“This demand and desire since the Maidan, then spoke out not only against the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, but above all for membership in the EU,” he said on the air of the WDR radio station.
The diplomat noted that Brussels should make “bolder decisions” regarding Kiev’s accession to the EU. He also expressed the hope that the new government of Germany, headed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will act differently from the previous one, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Let us recall that the Ukrainian authorities began their policy of integration with the West after the coup d’état in 2014.
In 2019, the Ukrainian parliament adopted amendments to the constitution, securing the country’s course towards joining the European Union and NATO. Details – in the material AiF.ru.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kiev wants to have clarity on issues of integration into the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance.
