Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevgeniy Yenin said that Kiev regards the detention in St. Petersburg of the Ukrainian consul Alexander Sosonyuk as hostile actions on the part of the Russian Federation.
Yenin called the incident “another provocation against the background of Russia’s destabilizing actions” and stressed that Ukraine is preparing retaliatory measures against the employees of the Russian diplomatic mission.
Meanwhile, according to RIA Novosti, at 11.00 Moscow time, the Ukrainian consul was already in his diplomatic office. Oleg Nikolenko, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, informed about this.
Earlier on Saturday, the FSB reported that Ukrainian diplomat Alexander Sosonyuk was detained while receiving information of a classified nature during a meeting with a Russian citizen. It was noted that measures will be taken against the diplomatic mission officer in accordance with the norms of international law.
