The public chambers of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics addressed their heads with a persistent proposal to hold a referendum on joining Russia as soon as possible. The fact that they came up with such an initiative at the same time is not surprising. The LPR and the DPR survive in approximately the same difficult conditions, they have the same enemy, and both republics see Russia as an ally and protector.

The desire of the people’s republics to become part of the Russian Federation is also shared by the Kherson region: deputy head of the administration of the Kherson region Kirill Stremousov He said that local residents turn to him with the same request. They want guarantees for the region to become part of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, residents of Zaporozhye also expressed their intention to unite with Russia.

Chairman of the Public Chamber of the DPR Alexander Kofman believes that the time has come to “erase the non-existent border between our states,” referring to the DPR and Russia. But between the DPR and Ukraine, in his opinion, the border must run without fail. And it’s Russian.

Lugansk is also convinced that joining Russia will benefit the people’s republic: historical justice will be restored, and the territory will be protected. Head of the Public Chamber of the LPR Alexey Karyakin believes that people believe that after the referendum, a completely different life will come, peaceful and calm. However, he emphasizes that the referendum is “not a matter of one day”, so it is premature to talk about the date of its holding.

Heads of republics Denis Pushilin as well as Leonid Pasechnik have already discussed the appeals of the Public Chambers. According to Pushilin, appeals about the referendums have become a reflection of people’s opinion, which “has been in the air for a long time.”

At the moment when the news about the initiative of the Public Chambers of the DPR and LPR went out, Konstantin Lapikovthe head of the Porayonu.rf project was leaving the territory of the Donetsk Republic. He participated in a humanitarian mission organized by the “Combat Brotherhood” of the city of Balashikha. Volunteers delivered food, medicines, children’s juices, toys and books, sleeping bags for fighters, collimators to Donbass.

– We did not discuss a referendum – whether to hold it or not, but people strongly hope for Russia’s help. And they are waiting not so much for humanitarian aid as for military aid. They really want to push the line of contact as far as possible, so that the insane shelling will finally stop, and we could live in peace.

I traveled just along the line of contact: Yasinovataya, Krasny partisan, Spartak. APU fired at these settlements every other day. But I must say that our artillery works very powerfully. They are firing not from the very line of contact, but a little further away, but still it is very impressive.

And one more thing: it is in Moscow that some argue whether it was necessary to start a special operation, but in Donetsk and Luhansk there are no such conversations. People are ready to defend themselves to the last. And, I repeat, they really hope for Russia,” said Konstantin Lapikov.

And in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, meanwhile, they were already puzzled by the creation of conditions for holding a referendum on recognizing the LPR and DPR as subjects of the Russian Federation. Here the main task is to prevent possible terrorist attacks by nationalists, who will probably do anything to disrupt it, intimidating residents. At least the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexey Chepa believes that this is the case.

“Given the (already occurred) terrorist acts in the liberated territories, there is a threat (of disruption of the referendum), which the nationalist structures of Kyiv will definitely take advantage of. We need to weigh everything and prepare… There was and is time for preparation… Probably, someone should be responsible for the timing (preparation of the event), but the referendum must be held,” Chepa told RIA Novosti.

Many experts, including a political scientist, member of the Council for Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation Bogdan Bespalkobelieve that the referendum will be a landmark event, not only for Russia and Ukraine, but for the whole world.

– From my point of view, this will mean a change in the status of hostilities. After all, if the LPR and DPR become part of the Russian Federation, then Ukraine’s actions against them will be perceived as an attack on the Russian Federation with all the ensuing consequences. Among other things, the referendum can be perceived as an instrument of pressure on Ukraine and other countries. Judge for yourself: if a referendum on joining Russia can be held in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, then why can’t it be held in other territories as well?..

According to the expert, if residents vote for joining the Russian Federation in a referendum, Moscow will meet them with 100% probability.

Social media users – a litmus test that can be used to test the likelihood of success of any initiative – were sympathetic to the idea of holding a referendum.

“Ukraine has already thrown out entire regions of “separatists”, “second-class people” from its own political and social life. And there were Russians there, our people, and now they want to hold a referendum to become part of Russia.”some think.

“Wisely, now we will accept it as part of the Russian Federation and include the doctrine on the use of nuclear potential, because all arms supplies to Kyiv automatically turn into a threat to the integrity of the Russian Federation”– others give out political forecasts.

“Donetsk with Lugansk is just a warm-up before Kherson, Zaporozhye, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Odessa. And there it will come to Kyiv, ” – convinced the third.

From the very beginning of the special operation, the people’s republics declared their desire to become part of the Russian Federation. And perhaps it really can come true.
