UK Foreign Office Supported Extension of START III

The representative of the British Foreign Office said that the department welcomes the achievement of an agreement between Russia and the United States on the extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms, TASS reports.

“We welcome the US proposal to extend the new START treaty with Russia. The Treaty has made an important contribution to strategic stability, transparency and confidence-building. We will support the treaty and the extension of its reliable verification mechanism, ”he said.

Earlier, the Russian Federation and the United States exchanged notes on the extension of the treaty on strategic offensive arms. During their first telephone conversation, Russian and American leaders Vladimir Putin and Joseph Biden expressed satisfaction with the exchange of diplomatic notes on reaching an agreement to extend the START Treaty.
