Tuvalu Foreign Minister Simon Coffee spoke at the UN COP26 conference, knee-deep in water, photos posted on Facebook, the event was broadcast online.
Coffee went behind a podium set in the sea and rolled up his trousers. With the help of such a gesture, he tried to draw attention to the problem of rising sea levels and the struggle of the island state with it.
The COP26 Climate Summit takes place from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, Scotland. The conference is attended by representatives from almost 200 countries, including delegates from Russia.
Earlier, more than 80 countries around the world, including the US and 27 EU countries, announced their intention to reduce methane emissions by 30% by 2030. Also, the European Commission announced that 1 billion euros will be allocated for the global initiative to protect forests.
We add that Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a video message to the participants of the climate summit in Glasgow, said that Russia is taking vigorous measures to protect the country’s forests.
