Official Ankara intends to expel diplomats after their demands to release Turkish human rights activist Osman Kavala. The politicians were summoned to the state’s Foreign Ministry. They were reminded of the observance of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“I instructed our Foreign Minister to immediately take measures to ensure that these 10 ambassadors were declared persona non grata,” Erdogan said in a speech in the city of Eskisehir.
Prominent human rights defender Kavala was arrested for the second time in 2020. He was charged with participating in a coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016.
