President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev voted in the elections of deputies of the lower house of the country’s parliament, TASS reports.
The head of Kazakhstan took part in voting at a polling station located in the Palace of Schoolchildren. Tokayev called the current elections a step forward in the development of democracy in the country and expressed the hope that there will be different parties in parliament. In his opinion, the parliament should have discussions on the future of the country.
The President of Kazakhstan also added that on January 15 he will speak in parliament and present a new package of reforms in the republic.
Regular elections of deputies of the lower house of parliament, as well as local representative bodies, are being held in Kazakhstan on Sunday. The turnout, according to the country’s Central Election Commission, by 12:00 (09:00 Moscow time) was 28.8 percent.
