Lukashenka announced a threat to impose autocephaly on the Belarusian Orthodox Church. “All these are different stages of one plan for the split of society. The appearance of signs of introduction into the Orthodox community indicates the beginning of the implementation of this plan,” the State Duma warned.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that opponents of the republic are trying to break Orthodoxy in the country and declare autocephaly to the Belarusian Orthodox Church. Sergey Gavrilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Development of Civil Society and Head of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (MAP), commented on his words.
He noted that pressure on the Orthodox Church is being exerted both in the former Soviet republics and in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula. In this case, everything always happens according to the same scheme.
Together with our MAP colleagues, we analyzed the processes of pressure on Orthodox believers in these states. Markers similar in all cases can be traced: creation of a pseudo-religious organization; seizure of property from the Orthodox Church by any means; attacks on believers who have remained faithful to traditional Orthodoxy,
– said Sergei Gavrilov.
As an example, he cited the creation in Ukraine of the so-called “OCU” and the constant attacks on the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The parliamentarian also recalled the law on the seizure of property from the Serbian Orthodox Church and plans to create a “Kosovo” church.
All these are different stages of one plan to split society. The appearance of signs of introduction into the Orthodox community indicates the beginning of the implementation of this plan,
– pointed out Sergei Gavrilov.
In his opinion, keeping the situation under control is possible only through the unity and solidarity of Christians in the world. The parliamentarian warned that the emerging non-canonical churches are political institutions conducive to extremism.
