The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova announced the first cases of human infection with the H5N8 flu at a briefing on Saturday. The infection occurred at a poultry farm in southern Russia, where an outbreak of infection occurred in December 2020.

“Until nowno human cases have been reported worldwide with the H5N8 avian influenza virus. In Russia, the first case of human infection with influenza A virus, avian influenza H5N8 has been laboratory confirmed, ”Popova told RBC.

According to her, all measures to protect people and animals were carried out in a short time, all risks were minimized and this situation did not develop further.

“All people, all seven people about whom I say today, they feel good, their clinical course was very easy. But at the same time, our scientists managed to see changes in the human body and the immune response to a meeting with this virus in all seven workers of this poultry farm. Today they feel good, and at that moment they felt good, the disease ended quickly enough “, – quotes the head of Rospotrebnadzor TASS.

There are currently no human-to-human transmission of the H5N8 influenza virus, Popova said. At present, only the infection of humans from birds is known.
