Garbage sorting complex with capacity thousand tons per year and a new landfill for waste disposal will be built in the polar city of Vorkuta, Komi Republic, before 2025 in the framework of the Clean Country project of the Ecology national project. Costs are estimated at 970 million rubles, the head of the Vorkuta administration, Igor Guryev, said.
Guryev said that “the Vorkuta development plan (being agreed by the federal authorities) provides for the construction (…) of a waste sorting complex in 50 thousand tons per year and a new landfill for waste disposal, ”reports TASS.
“This is due to the fact that the current landfill cannot cope with the load, its design capacity is about 74% of the required. In addition, it is located in the sanitary zone of Vorkuta Airport, 2.8 km from the passenger airport facilities, ”the mayor of the polar city said.
According to him, the capacity of the complex in thousand tons will fully satisfy the needs Vorkuta in the sorting and processing of waste. Construction is estimated at 970 million rubles, of which about 388 million rubles – at the landfill and 70 million – for the construction of a waste sorting complex.
Investments are planned from the federal budget, from the regional waste management operator Ukhtazhilfond LLC and the single-industry town development fund under the Clean Country project of the Ecology national project.
In addition to construction, reclamation of the existing landfill will be required, including the development of design estimates for these works, engineering surveys, and reclamation costs. These works are estimated at 388 million rubles, the allocation of funds is planned from the federal and regional budgets.
Vorkuta is a polar mining coal company in the Komi Republic with a population of about 74 thousand people, fourth largest in the Arctic Circle. The Vorkuta urban district consists of seven settlements – the city and towns. About 7 thousand inhabitants are engaged in coal mining, Vorkuta coal is fully used in metallurgy.
