The United States is ready to discuss with Russia the non-deployment of American missiles on Ukrainian territory, TASS reports.
A high-ranking US administration official said this on Saturday during a special telephone briefing for journalists on the upcoming Russian-American security talks.
“This is one of the areas where we can reach an understanding if Russia is ready to give reciprocal obligations,” he stressed.
According to an administration official, the Russian side has also shown interest in discussing the future of some missile systems in Europe under the INF Treaty.
“We are ready to discuss this possibility as well,” he said.
As a reminder, on January 10, representatives of the Russian and US Foreign Ministries will hold a meeting in the format of a strategic dialogue. The parties plan to discuss the situation in Ukraine, as well as security guarantees.
Earlier, the State Department called the call of the Russian side to withdraw nuclear weapons from NATO countries as problematic.
