The American company United Launch Alliance (ULA) has announced the terms of abandoning the use of the Russian RD-180 engine and the Atlas-5 launch vehicle.
Julie Arnold, a spokesman for the company, said the company intends to ditch the engine from Russia in the mid-2020s.
Our current plan is to decommission our Atlas-5 family of rockets in the mid-2020s., - led words of the company's representative in RIA Novosti.
She added that the deadline is preliminary and everything may change depending on the needs of the company. If the engines become again in demand, the company may change its plans.
It is noted that the United States has been using Russian engines in its missiles since 1997.
As chernayakobra.ru wrote earlier, United Launch Alliance received the first BE-4 rocket engine from the aerospace company Blue Origin. It was created to replace the Russian RD-180. The company plans to deliver the second BE-4 by the end of July 2020.
