The return of the United States to the Open Skies Treaty (OON) will send Russia the “wrong signal”, so the United States is unlikely to join it again.
This was reported in the Defense News edition.
The article says that the United States voiced this position in its diplomatic note. At the same time, the publication recalled that Joe Biden, the bulb of the White House, condemned last year’s decision by Donald Trump to withdraw from the treaty.
“The State Department said that the irrevocable decision has not yet been met. However, at the time of their demarche on March 31, they reported to several partners that the administration “is very worried that agreeing to join a treaty that Russia continues to disregard will send Russia the wrong signal and undermine the US’s position on a more ambitious arms control agenda.” – Spelled out in the material.
The text also notes that other OON member states want the United States to remain a member of the treaty, as this is a valuable channel for dialogue with Russia.
