State Duma deputies plan to consider the issue of appointing new members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) at a plenary session scheduled for February 17, writes TASS with reference to the first vice-speaker of the lower chamber Alexander Zhukov.
Prior to that, it was assumed that the deputies would consider the issue at a plenary meeting on February 24, but the Duma changed the work schedule and postponed the meeting a week earlier.
Deputies and factions of the lower house of parliament could send their candidacies to the new CEC to the Committee for Control and Regulation until Monday evening.
The term of office of the current composition of the commission will expire in March. It has 15 members, five of them are appointed by the President of the Russian Federation, five by the Federation Council and five by the State Duma.
