The State Duma proposed to increase the age limit for owning a weapon – Izvestia

A legislative initiative to raise the age limit for gun ownership will be submitted to the State Duma after an incident in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where an 18-year-old local shot three people, the Izvestia newspaper writes.

As the deputy of the State Duma Anatoly Vyborny told the publication, the age limit for obtaining a license to own and use weapons is proposed to be increased to 21 years. He specified that the initiative will be submitted to the Duma after discussing the issue with experts from the Public Chamber and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Vyborny stressed that in the Russian Federation it is also necessary to strengthen the system of control over the owners of weapons. In particular, the regulatory authorities must monitor the situation from the moment they receive a license.

If the owner of the weapon was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility for violation of public order during the year, was registered due to alcohol and drug addiction, he should automatically lose his license, and the weapon should be seized.

Recall that the tragedy took place in the village of Bolsheorlovskoye, Borsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the UK, the 18-year-old boy shot three people. Three people were injured, including the young man's grandmother. He was later found dead. A criminal case was initiated.

Earlier, the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed to check whether the weapon was legally issued to the suspect, as well as to assess the work of the prevention authorities.
