The parliament of the Chechen Republic has submitted to the State Duma a bill that prohibits the media from naming the nationality and religion of a criminal, RIA Novosti reports.
The document was published in the electronic database of the chamber. The authors of the initiative believe that the dissemination of such information may offend the national and religious feelings of people not related to criminal activity.
“In our multinational and multiconfessional country, every thoughtless and carelessly spoken word can become a detonator of a social explosion,” the materials for the project say.
It was reported on November 11 that the Chechen parliament proposed to ban the media from disseminating data on the nationality of the criminal. In the draft federal law, information about belonging to the peoples of Russia is also banned.
