Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Crimean region Mikhail Sheremet called Ukraine’s plans to complete the construction of a dam on the North-Crimean canal as a manifestation of a barbaric policy in order to make the supply of water to Crimea as impossible as possible, RIA Novosti writes.
We will remind, earlier the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, Anton Korinevich announced plans to complete the dam in order to “maximally exclude water from entering” the region.
Meanwhile, Sheremet called Ukraine’s plans to harm Crimea as a hopeless waste of time.
“We have already developed and are implementing a clear roadmap to provide the population with a reliable water supply and remove problems with water shortages,” he stressed.
The deputy stressed that by cutting off water supplies to Crimea through the North Crimean Canal, environmental damage was imposed on the Kherson region of Ukraine, where land swamping occurred.
“The Kiev authorities act according to the principle, I will frostbite my ears to harm my mother,” Sheremet said.
Earlier, the head of the Crimea State Committee for Interethnic Relations, Albert Kangiev, criticized the intention of the Ukrainian side to complete the dam on the North Crimean Canal. In his opinion, this initiative is “another trick of the Kiev authorities to enrich themselves at the expense of budgetary funds.”
