The issue was discussed by the chairman of the parliament of the republic and the head of the American Congress committee on international affairs. Earlier, the US ambassador said that Washington links the abolition of the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Tashkent with the republic’s accession to the WTO.
Recall that this amendment was adopted by Congress in 1974. She imposed restrictions on trade in the USSR. In 2006, the United States canceled its effect in relation to Ukraine, and in 2012 – in relation to Russia and Moldova.
At the moment, the Jackson-Vanik amendment is formally valid in relation to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Belarus and Azerbaijan.
