Smartphones are not the most dangerous source of radiation, according to Chinese physicist Shang Zhinan of Tsinghua University.
In his article on the WeChat social network, he noted that to date there is no evidence of a relationship between radiation from mobile phones and the development of malignant tumors. He stressed that a person from birth is surrounded by various sources of radiation, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the carcinogen classification of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, electromagnetic radiation falls into categories 2B and 3, along with pickled cucumbers and coffee. Meanwhile, Shang urged to pay attention to carcinogens of the first category, as they can cause cancer. These include, but are not limited to, tobacco, sunlight and car exhaust fumes.
The physicist noted that the radiation power from the phone depends mainly on its working condition. It increases when talking or transferring data, but this does not happen at night when the smartphone is lying on a pillow or on a bedside table next to a person. Shan noted that earphones should be used to reduce the harmful effects of radiation on the head during long calls.
The scientist added that living near the base station also does not affect health. According to him, the radiation near it is minimal.
