A permanent UN presence should be maintained in Afghanistan, the Russian Security Council said following multilateral consultations of the secretaries of the Security Councils on Afghan issues.
It is emphasized that the UN plays a central and important role in Afghanistan. In this country, it is important to ensure the rights of women, children and national minorities.
The national security advisers also stressed the need to form an open and inclusive government, which will include representatives of all major ethnopolitical forces. As noted in the press service of the RF Security Council apparatus, this is a prerequisite for a successful process of national reconciliation in the country.
The meeting participants came to the conclusion that the territory of Afghanistan should not be used for training and sheltering terrorists. In addition, they called for the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid to the country.
India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in the dialogue. Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, spoke on behalf of Russia. He believes that the talks in New Delhi will give additional momentum to the development of cooperation in the Afghan direction and contribute to the establishment of peace in the country.
