Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Zaitsev said that the United States is trying to help Kosovo create its own army by supplying weapons to the unrecognized republic. TASS reports.
“It is with regret and concern that we record the information about the American supplies of arms and military equipment to the authorities in Pristina,” the diplomat said. "The US is doing it openly, to the detriment of international efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the Balkans and incompatible with the militarization of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo."
According to Zaitsev, Washington's plan to help Kosovo create its own army grossly violates the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which "provides for the dismantling of any Kosovo-Albanian military formations, allowing the presence of an exclusively international peacekeeping contingent in the province."
Zaitsev urged everyone who is not indifferent to the situation in the Balkans and the future of the region, not to allow steps that could lead to destabilization and the accumulation of dangerous conflict potential.
