The Russian Foreign Ministry requires the previously detained consul of Ukraine to leave the country

Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine to the Russian Federation Vasily Pokotilo on April 17 was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry due to the detention of the Ukrainian consul Alexander Sosonyuk, who was recommended to leave the country.

As indicated on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian diplomat must leave Russia within 72 hours, starting April 19.

Earlier, the FSB reported that Sosonyuk was detained in St. Petersburg during a meeting with a citizen of the Russian Federation while receiving classified information.

Commenting on the incident, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Kiev regards the incident as hostile actions by the Russian Federation and is preparing retaliatory measures against Russian diplomats.
